Characteristics and treatment technology of beer wastewater

Beer wastewater

1. Source and characteristics

Brewery wastewater is mainly from the saccharifying workshop, fermentation workshop and filling workshop, the three workshop wastewater indicators are different, saccharifying workshop and fermentation workshop wastewater accounts for about 30% of the total wastewater, chemical oxygen demand COD is very high, belongs to the high concentration of wastewater, while the filling workshop wastewater belongs to the low concentration of wastewater. Beer wastewater contains carbohydrates, alcohols and other organic matter, the concentration of organic matter is high, non-toxic, but easy to corruption, discharge into the water needs to consume a lot of dissolved oxygen, causing serious harm to the water environment.

2. Process selection

At present, most breweries mainly use the traditional biochemical method to treat wastewater, and many new breweries use the combined process for treatment, which can save costs and reduce energy consumption, and has a broader development prospect.

Anaerobic - aerobic combination process

Brewery adopts IC reactor and aeration tank in series to treat beer wastewater. The economic analysis of the treatment shows that the process has high stability, small area, high degree of operation automation, and can save costs. The excess granular sludge formed in the IC reactor can be sold, and the COD value of the treated wastewater is 30mg/L~45mg/L. The removal rate is about 86%, the average concentration of SS in effluent is 40mg/L~45mg/L, and the average removal rate can reach over 95%, which can be used for irrigation and greening. The anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic combined process uses this process to treat high-concentration beer wastewater, which has the following advantages: the range of adaptation to wastewater water quality is wider than that of a single treatment process, the HRT of wastewater can be shortened, the sludge can be prevented from swelling, the degradation rate of organic matter is high, and the sedimentation performance of sludge is good.

The series process of hydrolytic acidification, sequencing batch activated sludge (SBR) and bioadsorption (aeration) was used to treat beer wastewater, which is a typical anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic combined process. Hydrolysis acidification tank can reduce the pH value of wastewater and remove part of COD, improving biodegradability; aeration tank can reduce BOD concentration and reduce the load of subsequent treatment; biological adsorption can remove about 50% of organic matter within a relatively short aeration time, and effluent COD and BOD are stable, with removal rates of 98.6% and 93.8% respectively. The whole processing system has simple flow, compact structure, short HRT, saving energy consumption and cost.

In addition, the commonly used combination processes include: hydrolytic acidification - biological contact oxidation, UASB and oxidation ditch series process, UASB- anoxic pool - contact oxidation process, hydrolytic acidification - biological contact oxidation - external circulation (EC) anaerobic process.
