1. Working Principle
When ultrasonic waves propagate in a liquid medium, they produce a series of effects through mechanical, cavitation, and thermal actions, including mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, and chemical effects. High-power ultrasonic waves, in particular, produce strong cavitation, thus forming instantaneous high temperatures, high pressures, vacuums, and microjets locally. The cavitation effect of ultrasonic waves makes it possible to degrade harmful organic substances in water, thereby achieving the purpose of ultrasonic wastewater treatment.
In wastewater treatment, the cavitation effect of ultrasonic waves has a strong degradation ability on organic matter, and the degradation speed is very fast. The high energy produced by the collapse of ultrasonic cavitation bubbles is sufficient to break chemical bonds. The cavitation bubble collapse produces hydroxyl (OH) and hydrogen (H) radicals, which react with organic matter through oxidation. This can transform harmful organic substances in water into CO2, H2O, inorganic ions, or organic substances with lower toxicity and easier degradation than the original organic substances. Therefore, organic pollutants that are difficult to treat by biodegradation in traditional wastewater treatment can be degraded through the cavitation effect of ultrasonic waves.
