Treatment scheme of pickles/pickles curing wastewater -- application of homogeneous membrane electrodialysis technology

In the food processing industry, the pickling of pickles and pickles is an important production link, but the process produces a large amount of wastewater, which poses a serious challenge to environmental treatment. These wastewater has the characteristics of high salt content and high chemical oxygen demand (COD), of which the salt content is as high as 4000mg /L, if not properly treated and directly discharged, will cause serious pollution to the water environment, destroy the ecological balance, affect the survival of aquatic organisms and the sustainable use of water resources.


In order to effectively solve the problem of treatment of pickles/pickles curing wastewater, we introduced a homogeneous membrane electrodialysis device. This technology is based on the principle of selective permeability of ion exchange membrane, through the action of electric field, the ions in the wastewater can be transferred in a directional manner, so as to achieve efficient separation of salt and COD. After being treated by the homogeneous membrane electrodialysis device, the fresh water part showed satisfactory results. Its salt content is significantly reduced to ≤1000mg/L, reaching the standard that can be entered into the biochemical system for further processing. Through the metabolic action of microorganisms, the biochemical system can effectively decompose the organic matter in the wastewater, further reduce the COD content, and make the wastewater meet the discharge standard or the water quality requirements for reuse.
The concentrated water produced in the electrodialysis process has a salt content of 150000mg/L. This part of the concentrated water is not waste, because of its high salt content characteristics, has considerable recycling value. In the actual production process, it can be used back for some links that have specific requirements for salt. For example, in some pre-treatment steps, highly salted concentrated water can be used to regulate the osmotic pressure of raw materials and promote the penetration and diffusion of flavor substances during the curing process, thereby improving the quality and taste of the product. Or in some cleaning links, the use of its high salt characteristics to enhance the cleaning effect, while reducing the consumption of fresh water resources, to achieve the recycling of resources, reduce production costs, and improve the economic and environmental benefits of the entire production process.
In summary, the homogeneous membrane electrodialysis device plays an important role in the treatment of pickles/pickles pickles wastewater, which not only effectively solves the problem of wastewater pollution, but also realizes the recycling of resources, and provides a strong technical support for the sustainable development of the food processing industry.
